Raising Funds for Cancer Research & Support – A Journey of Hope and Determination

This summer, two of our procurement team members, Kirstie and Andy, are channelling their energy and determination into raising funds for cancer-related charities, a cause that resonates deeply with both of them. Their upcoming fundraising events are not just a testament to their physical endurance but also to their unwavering spirit to support those battling cancer.

Kirstie’s Race for Life: A Tribute to Her Grandad

On Sunday, 7th July, Kirstie will be lacing up her running shoes to participate in the 5k ‘Race for Life’ at Clumber Park. This event holds a special place in her heart as she is running in memory of her beloved Grandad, who passed away last year.

Training for the race has been a journey filled with both highs and lows. Kirstie has celebrated personal bests, seeing marked improvements in her physical and mental health. However, it hasn’t been without its challenges; an injury early in her training set her back for a couple of weeks. Despite this, her determination to honour her Grandad’s memory and contribute to cancer research has kept her going.

Andy’s Mighty Hike: A Personal Mission Along the Thames

The following week, on Saturday, 13th July, Andy will embark on a 26-mile ‘Mighty Hike’ along the River Thames, supporting Macmillan Cancer support. This gruelling trek is not just a test of endurance but a personal mission for Andy, who has experienced the impact of cancer.

Statistics reveal that 1 in 2 people will suffer from cancer at some point in their lives, underscoring the importance of continuous research and support. Andy’s commitment to this cause is a reflection of his desire to see advancements in cancer treatment and care, ensuring that fewer families have to endure the pain of losing a loved one to this disease.
