The advantage of mains voltage powered products is that they don’t require a transformer. However, mains voltage lighting has a limited lifetime compared to 12V lighting and therefore don’t last as long.

Driver powered products offer 12V lighting powered by a transformer which in turn are wired directly into the main electricity supply. This lighting must be installed by a qualified electrician.

The advantages of driver powered products are that they are safer due to a lower electric shock risk, they are often more cost effective to run and have a longer life span. But they can cost more to install than mains powered lighting.
